What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a clinically diagnosed medical condition that makes a person sweat excessively and unpredictably. Hyperhidrosis sufferers may sweat even when they are resting or when the temperature is comfortable.
Excessive sweating can really adversely affect a person’s daily routine. It can create a significant physical, emotional and psychological challenge for the sufferer. Almost 3% of the general population are estimated to have hyperhidrosis.
The great news is that there are a number of treatments for excessive sweating, for every budget and severity of condition. As outlined on our home page, ES Treatments recommends and sell only safe, natural, drug-free, or non-invasive hyperhidrosis treatment alternatives. From anti-perspirants and clothing for the smaller budget, and/or less severe cases to tap water iontophoresis for more costly, (but more cost effective over the long run) for larger budgets and any level of severity, ES Treatments has a great solution for the hyperhidrosis sufferer. The products we offer are the top products in their category, proven, and often recommended by our customers.
How do I treat with iontophoresis?
Iontophoresis is a therapy treatment, kind of like physical therapy. First you have to treat a little more aggressively in the beginning to get rid of your symptoms, and then after the symptoms are gone or almost gone, then you go to a maintenance phase to make sure the symptoms don’t come back.
With a powerful and effective iontophoresis device like the ones we carry, a user would first do approximately 10 treatments per body area they need to treat. Each treatment or session is about 15 minutes in duration. They can do one treatment per body area a day, but any more than that has not been proven to be any more effective. If their schedule does not allow, they can skip days in between sessions, but they quicker they get to about 10 treatments, the faster they will see good results. Keep in mind that the 10 treatments is an average; some people see results much quicker and a handful have to do many more than 10 treatments to see satisfactory results.
After a user is sufficiently dry (keep in mind, iontophoresis does not ELIMINATE sweating, as perspiration in certain situations, such as exersizing, is essential and good for you), they can then move to the maintenance stage. We generally recommend one treatment a week, as it is a nice and easy regimen to get on, but some people may need to treat a little more often, and others can go longer between sessions, but this is a nice starting point and ideal for most users.
Do I need a prescription?
While we do NOT need a prescription for any of the antiperspirant, clothing products, or iontophoresis device accessories, we DO require one for the iontophoresis devices themselves for domestic (U.S.) sales, as they are FDA approved by prescription only. The devices we carry are certified by the FDA to be safe and effective for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, so any product that is NOT FDA approved is either not especially effective, or is not authorized to be sold in the U.S.
If you are having a problem getting a prescription from a physician, please contact us, as we have a growing database of physicians that we work with and may be able to refer you to one in your area.
Also, if you want to submit for insurance reimbursement for your device (and we encourage you to try!), then a prescription would be required by the insurance company as well. One of our suppliers has this great guide to help you with this process here: http://excessive-sweating-treatments.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Insurance-Reimbursement-Assistance-Guide-Rev-11.1.15.pdf
Are your antiperspirants safe for sensitive skin?
All of the antiperspirants we carry are very strong and effective, but much gentler on the skin than prescription-strength antiperspirants. That being said, it is always a good idea to test a small area first to see any reaction, and it is also a good idea to make sure your skin is completely dry before applying the products, as irritation can occur when aluminum mixes with water. Running a hair dryer over the area for 10 seconds should be sufficient to make it completely dry.
What is your return policy?
ES Treatments offers a 30 day return policy on un-used antiperspirants and clothing, and a 60 day return policy on iontophoresis devices, regardless if they have been used. In fact, we WANT you to try the iontophoresis device, as we are very confident that you will get satisfactory results if used correctly. All refunds will be for the products only. Shipping costs are non-refundable, and the customer is responsible for return shipping costs.
